Hurray Harrar!

Harar Ethiopia is a region in Eastern Ethiopia.  Ethiopia is considered the birthplace of coffee.

Mmm mmm good - full bodied with a smooth chocolatey finish .  My first attempt resulted in keeping 2 out of 3 batches.  I packed up several pounds for the weekend to share with friends and family.  The days after Thanksgiving were spent, playing cards, drinking (coffee) and watching a Planet of the Apes ("I said no sugar") marathon.

Will need to get back to the roaster, fresh out of fresh roasted beans!

Why would anyone drink decaf?

I figured if it's not caffeinated what's the point?   Until I roasted and cupped my first batch of Sumatra SWDecaf, then I understood.   Full and rich with low acidity, a nice hot drink no matter what time of day.  Bye bye Swiss Miss hello Swiss Water Decaf..

Espresso Anyone?

Three more successful batches are waiting to be packaged.  1/2 of which will go to Salon Capelli (studio of hairdresser extraordinaire Stan Enyart) to be sold,  and the other 1/2 will be available for purchase.  I anticipate roasting the Sumatra on Thurs, or should I do the Harrar...hmmm what to do?  Check back to find out what ended up in the cup.

Thanks,
Brenda

In The Bag

All four espresso batches cupped out nice and consistent.  Very exciting, as that currently is one of my biggest challenges with each bag of beans.  They are all packaged up and will be delivered tomorrow to several "customers".  Okay, so they're family and friends, but they're customers.  Thanks Gayelene, Eldon, Stan and Matt Mahaffy.

How long IS your driveway he asks.

The beans are here.  I was a bit worried that the driver would circle the island several times in attempt to deliver and then just leave a nasty gram telling me i can come pick them up in CLACKAMAS.   So the only thing now that leaves me scratching my head is the Harrar.   I thought it was going to be organic.  Nuts.

In local island news...looks like the Max Radke benefit was a huge success.  The fire department and local volunteers did an outstanding job pulling together a dinner/auction event this past Saturday night at the fire station.  And while I haven't heard  how much was raised,  I witnessed Dianne Kunkle's raspberry/cherry pie going to the bidder that put up $100!  I ended up with a rose bush donated from Bailey's Nursery.  What I really wanted win was a massage from Mary Parson of Field's of Healing (fieldsofhealing@hotmail.com).  If you haven't let her lay her hands on you, you are missing out - she is talented.

I'd also like to give a shout out to Amy Prince of  clothespincards.com - a good friend as well as fan mail artist.   Go to her link for stuff to mail to the people you worship.

More later,  time for a cup of decaf and a slice of fresh hot apple pie.

Beans, Beans, the caffeinated fruit...

Bye bye Facebook.  Hello Blogger.com.   I'm told blogging is a must and don't have time for both...sooo here goes...

I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of a new shipment of green beans tomorrow.   Due to arrive is an Organic Ethiopian Harrar, an Organic  Sumatra, an Organic Sumatra Decaf and another bag of the Rosebud Espresso blend.   Can't wait to fire up the roaster.  Currently the Organic Maya Ixil from Guatemala is my a.m. favorite.  Did I mention this bean is migratory bird friendly?  Give me about a week or so and if you are interested in a free sample pot (of coffee) email us at info@sauvieislandcoffee.com and we'll mail you one.
